Feature Engineering: The Unsung Hero of ML

Dragoș Cojocari - Co-Founder @ DataGrid Software

Europe room

10th November, 14:30-15:00

When ML/AI is brought into discussion you will most often hear about technologies like Convolutional Neural Networks, Auto Encoders, Deep Fakes, computer generated art and much more. And it’s quite fair that we are excited by these fantastic pieces of math, software design and human brilliance. There is however a much humbler component of the ML/AI flow without which the high-end algorithms would not be able to shine so bright. That component is called “Feature Engineering” and in this talk I’ll go over the basics of what it is, how it works and why it deserves a lot of credit and attention.

DataGrid Software

Happy father, passionate reader, enthusiast developer. After more than a decade spent with IBM Development Group, I’ve started DataGrid with a group of good friends and colleagues. During the last two decades I had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the best and brightest in fantastically interesting domains like UML, IoT, ML/AI and more. I love designing, coding and deploying all kinds of systems in production but above all else I love sharing and expanding my knowledge.
