The hype regarding automated cars has reached every corner of the world. The needed technological solutions for up to Level 4 automation are already available and we are one step away from market breakthrough. But what about trains and trams? Can the automotive technologies be caried over to the railway field? What solutions do we, at Bosch, see in terms of a safe and environment-friendly transportation? Will we have soon trains without a driver? This presentation will give you a glimpse of the reasons why to automatize rail transportation and of the challenges it implies.

I am a Senior Project Leader at Bosch Engineering Center in Cluj-Napoca. I graduated from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca in 2003. After 13 years of developing software for automotive braking systems at Bosch Germany, I decided to return to my hometown in 2016. At Bosch Engineering Center Cluj first I was responsible for the development of Electric Power Steering automotive systems. Now, since 2020, I am in charge of ramping up the local organization of Bosch Engineering GmbH, being at the same time responsible for the development of Bosch Railways solutions in Cluj-Napoca.
